Yesterday, the Ministry of Economy’s (MoEc) deputy minister for policy and technical affairs, Mr Mohammad Ismail Rahimi, introduced a monitoring and reporting database to officials from the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul and Urozgan. In a two-day training, 15 government officials learned to use the database that provides information on development projects implemented in the respective provinces and monitors their progress. The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the MoEc in developing the database.

Charikar, Parwan, 28th June 2018 – Yesterday, 20 male and female staff from Parwan province’s Directorate of Mines and Petroleum (DoMP) completed a three-day workshop on the role of gender in the mining sector. Representatives of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the local governor’s office attended the event. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme Promoting Good Governance in the Extractive Sector in Afghanistan financed and implemented the workshop together with the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP).

Kabul, 25th June 2018 – Yesterday evening, the Afghan-German Cooperation and Amani School in Kabul celebrated the inauguration of a new football pitch. This new sports area will be available to all 3.5000 students of Amani School. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s project SGS - Strengthening German-supported Afghan Schools – financed the construction of the football pitch and continuously supports Amani school in improving education quality.

Khulm District, Balkh, 31st May 2018 – Yesterday, HE President Ashraf Ghani inaugurated new electricity infrastructure in Balkh province. A new substation in Khulm district will supply energy to approximately 77,000 people in the district, surrounding areas and the nearby town of Pir Nakhchir. In addition, a new distribution network in Marmul district will supply electricity to 1320 households in the area. In total, 90,000 citizens benefit from the new infrastructure. The Afghan Ministry of Energy and Water was the Executing Agency for both projects. The Afghan-German Cooperation financed the infrastructure at a total cost of about AFN 761 million.

Yesterday, a regional awareness workshop on AEITI took place in Kabul. About 30 participants from Kabul and the Afghan provinces Parwan, Loger, Kapisa, and Wardak learned about the initiative’s activities. Attendees included government officials and stakeholders from civil society, the private sector and the media. AEITI and the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) implemented the workshop. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for promoting good governance in the Afghan extractive sector financed and supported the activity.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) put an extended power line and a newly constructed energy network into operation in Kunduz’ provincial capital. About 20,000 citizens now benefit from reliable energy supply. The Provincial Development Committee (PDC) approved the project in 2016. Construction works lasted for two years. The German Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) and DABS implemented the project, financed by the Afghan-German Cooperation at a total cost of about AFN 217 million.

Jakarta, Indonesia – Today, Afghanistan and Indonesia formalised future cooperation in the field of anti-corruption. The three-day meeting between the Afghan Independent Joint Anti-Corruption and Evaluation Committee (MEC) and the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) ended today. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s Open Policy Advisory Fund (OPAF) coordinated the visit with partners from Indonesia and Germany.

Feyzabad, Badakhshan, 8th May 2018 – Constructions on the hydropower plant in Feyzabad will now resume after clarifying geological circumstances. The hydropower plant will provide electrici-ty to Feyzabad’s entire population – in total about 60,000 people. The Afghan-German Cooperation funds the construction via KfW Development Bank at a total cost of AFN 3.7 billion. Constructions started in 2015 and shall be finished by December 2020.

New Delhi, India, 6th May 2018 –The Teacher Education Directorate (TED) conducted a five-day workshop on curriculum development based on learner-centred methodology. 17 TED members and lecturers from Teacher Training Centres (TTCs) in Balkh, Badakhshan, Herat and Samangan participated. The Afghan-German Cooperation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) supported the event. Around 180 TTC lecturers will directly benefit from the activity, resulting in improved lessons for about 26,000 female and 17,000 male students.

Today, a four-day capacity-building workshop ended for 25 employees from Balkh province’s Huquq bureaus and Family Counselling Centre. The activity aimed at improving the institutions’ citizen services by overcoming legal ambiguities related to mortgage law. Balkh’s Department of Justice (DoJ) conducted the training, supported by the Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for promoting the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL). Huquqs have handled more than 77,000 civil cases since 2013.
