11 experts of the Afghanistan Geological Survey and three lecturers of Kabul Polytechnic University (KPU) attended a three-week field training in geosciences in Yazd, Iran. Now, they returned to Kabul. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme Academic Mining Education in Afghanistan supported three KPU-lecturers to participate in this training. This is one of many activities organised by the Afghan-German Cooperation to help to strengthen international cooperation between universities, state institutions and donor operations in the Afghan mining and geology sector.

Yesterday, the “Women Weekend Market“, a three-day business exhibition for women, started at Kabul University. It will last until Thursday, 9th October. The show provides a platform to more than 40 women to sell their products and to do business in Afghanistan. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion (SEDEP) organised and funded the bazaar and the exhibitor’s support.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) as well as the Afghan electricity supplier Da Afghanistan Bereshna Sherakat (DABS) inaugurated the new Database Management System for the Afghanistan Energy Information Portal (AEIP). This database will help stakeholders to track relevant information in the field of energy and thus potentially increase sector opportunities. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for institutional development for energy in Afghanistan (IDEA) organised and financed setting up the database for the ministry at a total cost of more than AFN 3 million.

About 35 participants from the Afghanistan Independent Bar Association (AIBA), the Ministry of Justice, the High Office of Oversight and the International Bar Association attended the event. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for the promotion of the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL) and the International Bar Association supported the workshop technically and financially.

Yesterday, Badakhshan’s Department of Public Health (DoPH) and citizens from Tagab district celebrated the new health clinic’s (CHC) opening in the district’s capital. The new building will help local health workers to provide better health services to the 27,000 citizens living in the district. The DoPH and the provincial governor’s office jointly implemented the project. The Afghan-German Cooperation funded the building’s construction and rehabilitation at a total cost of around AFN 29 million.

The delegation included representatives from the civil society, the private sector, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) and the Presidential Office. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for promoting good governance in the extractive sector financed, organised and accompanied the delegation’s participation in the conference.

The new education facilities will provide a better learning environment for almost 3,000 students, both girls and boys. The German government funded all constructions at a total cost of AFN 62.4 million via the Stabilization Programme Northern Afghanistan (SPNA).

Yesterday, a two-day workshop for female volunteer gender focal points and the heads of the Departments of Women’s Affairs (DoWA) of the Afghan provinces Badakhshan, Baghlan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Kunduz, Samangan, and Takhar ended in Mazar-e Sharif, Balkh. Gender focal points offer legal advice to women in their communities, helping to access justice. The workshop focussed on the volunteer gender focal points’ work and experiences in Afghan provinces. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s project for the promotion of the rule of law (RoL) supported the activity technically and financially.

The internship programme aims at equipping the participants with practical skills and work experience to improve their employability and to increase female participation in public institutions. The Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC) implemented the activity, supported by the Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for the promotion of good governance in Afghanistan (RCD).
