AFN 6.2 Billion Committed to Continued Cooperation between Afghanistan and Germany

Yesterday, the State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Mr Martin Jaeger, together with Dr Mohammad HumayonQayoumi, Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Fi-nance, affirmed the continued German support to Afghanistan.By the end of 2019, the German government via the BMZ is makingan additional AFN 6.2 billion(EUR 72 million) available to Afghan-German Cooperation projects, bringing the total commitment in the year 2019 to AFN 18.1 billion (EUR 211 million).

Teacher Training in Delhi: 5,000 Kabul School Students to Benefit from Improved Lessons

In Delhi, India, 27 teachers from Kabul are participating in a German language course while another 17 teachers receive educational training. Among them are 37 women. Both activities started on 21st October and will end on 3rd November. They aim at providing the teachers with the tools for modern teaching and teaching German language classes. The participants teach at three model schools in Kabul – the Amani High School for boys, the Aysha-e Durani High School for girls, and the Lycée Jamhuriat Business School for girls and boys. The Afghan-German Cooperation supports these schools that serve as models for school development across the country.

250 Attend Annual Legal Awareness Conference on Women’s Rights

On Thursday, an annual legal awareness conference on women’s rights was held in Mazar-e Sharif to raise public awareness of new laws. These laws will help address social problems, strengthen the rule of law, decrease corruption, and help build trust between the government and public. A total of 250 participants, among them 100 women, from different stakeholder groups attended, including representatives of the Department of Justice (DoJ), the Department of Women Affairs (DoWA), provincial courts, the prosecution office, Shuras, District Governor offices, the police, as well as Mullahs, teachers, community members, Madrasa students, and civil society actors. The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the event.

Mining Training for Provincial Mining Inspectors in Balkh Province

Today, a four-week standard mining training ended in Mazar-e Sharif. Thirteen mining inspectors from six provincial mining departments of Baghlan, Balkh, Faryab, Jawzjan, Samangan and Sar-e Pol attended the programme. The trainers, who are experts from Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP), had previously taken part in Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes which was also funded by the Afghan-German Cooperation in the years of 2015 and 2016.

Strengthening Afghanistan Renewable Energy Union to Build the Sector

Yesterday, a workshop on member’s contribution in building up the Afghanistan Renewable Energy Union (AREU) took place at Kabul University. Seventy people participated, including women, and discussed efforts to make AREU more functional and sustainable through membership contribution, which in turn will help promote renewable energy in Afghanistan. The group consisted of representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce (ACCI), the Afghan-German Cooperation’s Energy Sector Improvement Programme (ESIP) and other AREU members from the private sector. The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the workshop.

MOMP Staff Increases Awareness on the Role of Gender in Mining

Today, 20 male and female staff of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) successfully completed a two-day workshop in Kabul Province on the role of gender in mining management. The activity aimed at promoting female participation and employment in the extractive industry. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for promoting good governance in the Afghan extractive sector (MinGov) financed and implemented the workshop together with the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP).

Raising the Teaching Standard for Quality Education – 210 People Trained

Today, the last of seven respective three-day class observation workshops ended in the provinces of Kabul, Balkh, Samangan, Nangarhar, Bamiyan, Badakhshan and Herat. 210 people, including more than 40 women, participated in the training sessions. Participants included members of the respective Provincial Education Directorate (PED), members of Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), and heads of Teacher Development Centres (TDCs). The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the event.

Reliable Energy: New Power Supply Network in Samangan to Benefit 8,000 Residents

Last Thursday, Samangan’s Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and the Afghan-German Cooperation signed the contract for the construction of a power supply network in the Kokjar area of Hazrat Sultan District, Samangan. More than 8,000 people in the villages of Bamanchi, Malkar, Ghandaki, Tolakachi, Qazal Bash Lopan Naw, Lopan Kohna and Sadoai will benefit from the new energy infrastructure. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) supported DABS with identifying the project and is funding its implementation at a total cost of about AFN 133 million. Construction work is expected to be completed in 14 months.

New School Buildings in Kunduz City to benefit more than 25,000 Girls and Boys

Last Saturday, Kunduz’s Provincial Education Department (PED) together with the Deputy Minister for General Education, Mohammad Ibrahim Shinwari, and representatives from the Afghan-German Cooperation signed the contract to start the construction of four new high schools in Kunduz city centre. More than 25,000 girls and boys will benefit from the project once completed. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) has been supporting the PED in the project’s preparation since 2014 and is funding the implementation at a total cost of AFN 423 million.

Leveling the Playing Field for Women in the Mining Sector

Jalalabad, Nangarhar, 4th September 2019 – Twenty staff members of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum’s (MoMP) Nangarhar provincial directorate participated in a three-day workshop in Jalalabad. The MoMP conducted the workshop to promote an understanding of gender equality. The attendees discussed gender issues in the mining sector, the role of gender in the future of the mining sector, and women’s rights. The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the event.
